Detention Policy

Scholars who are late, out of uniform or earn behavior referrals will serve after-school detention.
After-school detention will occur Monday to Thursday 3:30 – 4:00 pm. If a scholar is late, out of uniform or earns a referral on a Friday they will serve detention on Monday. Parents will be notified via call and text message at 2:30 pm if their scholar will serve detention. If a scholar receives a behavior referral after 2:30 they will serve detention the following day. Please see the updated uniform policy below. 

Technology Policy

HPM will be implementing a new technology policy this year using Yondr pouches

Phones and other technology are not needed while in school

  • No phones
  • No smart watches
  • No airpods/ headphones

As scholars lineup for school each morning they will place all of their tech in a Yondr pouch which they will keep on their person
As scholars lineup to leave for school each afternoon they will get their Yondr pouch unlocked

We know you want to be able to reach your scholar but once they are in the building they can use office phones or staff phones

If scholars or families do not follow this policy they are in breach of the family handbook

Updates to Uniform Policy

Uniforms promote a sense of community, belonging, and school pride. All scholars are required to arrive in full uniform every day. 

Polo Shirt MUST BE:
• Long or short sleeved
• Navy blue with DPPS logo
• Undershirt may be worn underneath in
navy, black, grey, white or light blue

Slacks MUST BE:
• Traditional slacks, not carpenter or cargo pants
• Solid without any visible logos
• A material other than jean or corduroy
• Well Fitted
• Worn above the hipline

Shoes and Socks/Tights
Scholars may wear shoes and socks of any
color. Tights MUST BE black, white, gray or
navy. Footwear MUST BE:
• Flat sole
• Close-toe and close-heel.

OPTIONAL APPAREL
 Outerwear
Sweater, Sweatshirt, Vest or Cardigan MUST BE:
• Navy blue with DPPS logo or solid navy blue • Traditional slacks, not carpenter
or cargo pants
• Solid without any visible logos
• A material other than jean or corduroy
• Well fitted
• Worn above the hip line

Gym Uniform MUST BE worn on gym days
and may be optionally worn on non gym days.
• T-Shirt or Sweatshirt: navy with DPPS Logo,
• Shorts or Sweatpants: navy or gray
• Athletic shoes

REMOTE LEARNING TUTORIALS

We know that the transition to remote learning can be difficult. We have put together some useful tutorials and guides for navigating logging in and accessing the remote learning systems scholars need. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your scholar’s advisor if you are still having issues.

CLEVER

Clever provides access to many online learning tools including Google Classroom, Edulastic, and more. Start by logging in with the scholar’s DP email and password. If your child is having trouble logging in, please contact your scholar’s advisor directly (see link above).

Scholars and families can log in to Jupiter Ed with their own log-in information. Scholars’ grades will continue to be updated here regularly with at least two grades per week. If you or your scholar is unable to log in, please contact your scholar’s advisor or complete a support request HERE.

Scholars can look up their username by clicking “Forgot Username”. If they forgot their password, please contact your scholar’s advisor. Scholars may take quizzes anytime on books they read.  Click HERE for a guide on how to take an AR quiz.

INDEPENDENT READING RESOURCES

During remote instruction, scholars should be reading daily for at least 45 minutes. We are continuing to push scholars to meet their word count goals as measured by Accelerated Reader. Scholars can take quizzes any time on the Accelerated Reader website (see above). Please see below for some resources for accessing digital books.

SimplyE is The New York Public Library’s free e-reader app that makes it easy to borrow e-books. It is available on the App Store or Google Play. Apply for a library card through SimplyE to gain access to an array of digital resources available from home during our period of closure.

Epic! is the only all-you-can-read eBook library for middle and elementary school students with unlimited access to over 10000 high-quality kids books, many of which have quizzes on AR. Scholars can instantly stream a collection of stories from Amazon’s Audbile, including titles across six different languages, that will help them continue dreaming, learning, and just being kids. All stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet.

Newsela is a great platform with news articles on a variety of topics with comprehension quizzes. Daily assignments may be given through Newsela.com. Scholars can access Newsela through their Clever portal.

IXL Learning is a great platform scholars are familiar with and have used at school. Scholars can log in to IXL through the Clever portal and practice ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies standards. Please reach out to your scholars’ teachers for specific standards to focus on.

Quill has a number of online apps that teach writing, grammar, and vocabulary skills to students. Students using Quill learn English grammar and vocabulary by fixing sentences, proofreading passages, and collaboratively writing passages.
